Hi everyone, just curious about others opinion. A few times when visiting walmart, cashiers were wearing gloves. I asked what was the reason for doing so, and they did not want to say. I'm sure its for "avoiding" illnesses but wearing gloves all day without handwashing won't help. I feel as if there's a greater chance of getting an airborne illness. How do you all feel about wearing gloves as a cashier? I somewhat find it annoying and offensive. I feel as if having hand sanitizer at each counter would suffice. 1 Likes More Like This Gloves Are Getting Scarce by Kitiger, RN Hole In My Glove! by Joe V Nurse demonstrates just how fast germs spread even if you're wearing gloves by NRSKarenRN, BSN, RN

My hands sweat in gloves after a while, they are likely changing them more often than you think. I use the alcohol wipes very frequently every hour at work (triage, new patient every 3-5 minutes), and my skin & nails show the effect. 1 Likes
Misstika 37 Posts Aug 26, 2018 I never said gloves cause airbourne illnesses. The cashiers are wearing the gloves most likely to avoid getting sick. There's a greater chance of catching an airbourne illness in a crowded walmart. So should the cashiers wear masks as well? I don't care, I said I'm somewhat offended because germs are everywhere. Not just money. They don't even wash their hands before putting them on. I was just curious of what others thought about it. 1 Likes

I worked as a grocery store cashier once upon a time, and my first thought were all the leaking, seeping, sticky things that got all over my hands. Anything from blood, to dish washing liquid, to powdered sugar could end up on me. Yuck. They might also have something that has to be covered up per their employer, like an obscene tattoo across their knuckles. And even *if* they're worried about germs and misguided, so be it. Whether their gloves or their hands are touching my stuff, it's all the same to me.I just can't make sense of being offended by it, no matter what the reason. 1 Likes
Misstika 37 Posts Aug 26, 2018 I know its an assumption. They refuse to say why, as if its a top secret reason. I know for a fact its not to cover up tattoos. Its the best logical answer. I said somewhat offended. As a customer, I just don't think the gloves are necessary. It's not a big deal to me. Just curious about how others felt about it. 1 Likes
Misstika 37 Posts Aug 26, 2018 Maybe all day is the wrong choice of words. They do not change them frequently. Have you shopped at walmart when its crowded? You can be waiting in line nearly 30 mins. They are not changing gloves often. What you stated is the main reason why I think its gross and unnecessary. 1 Likes
